KATS (Korean Agency for Technology and Standards) - Request to Halt Procurement of 58 Non-Compliant Products, Including Skateboards, for Safety Standards

As the demand for overseas direct purchasing and proxy purchasing has increased in online malls in Korea, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards conducted safety inspections on 404 products, including skateboards, snowboards, and hair dryers.

The results of the investigation revealed that out of the 404 products under scrutiny, 58 were found to be non-compliant with safety standards. Among consumer goods, 24 products received non-compliance judgments, including skateboards that broke during drop tests and snowboards with inadequate strength.

In the category of electrical appliances, two products posed an electric shock hazard, including hair dryers and waffle makers. In the children's product category, 32 products were found to be non-compliant, including a set of portable child urinals exceeding phthalate-based plasticizer standards by approximately 235 times.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards informed proxy purchasing service providers and others involved in the procurement of non-compliant products and requested them to cease the procurement. The information was also made available to consumers through the Product Safety Information Center (www.safetykorea.go.kr).
