Samsung and Hyundai Motor sign a 7-year contract to supply 500,000 electric vehicle batteries
On October 23, battery manufacturer Samsung SDI announced that it will supply batteries for Hyundai Motor's electric vehicles for the European market from 2026 to 2032, covering a span of 7 years.
Samsung SDI's first battery supply contract with Hyundai Motor covers approximately 500,000 electric vehicles.
Samsung SDI plans to produce the 6th generation prismatic battery, the P6, at its Hungarian factory and supply it to Hyundai Motor in 2024. The P6 features an increased nickel content of 91% in its NCA (Nickel, Cobalt, Aluminum) cathode material and incorporates proprietary materials in the anode, enhancing battery performance. While the specific electric vehicle models to feature the P6 have not been determined, it is expected to be used in premium vehicle segments that continue to perform strongly, despite the recent slowdown in the electric vehicle market.
