The Ministry of Environment (ME) announced a new amendment to the Resource Circulation Act on September 25, expanding recycling obligations to cover all electronic devices, including small products like wireless earphones and portable fans.

This change is expected to enable the recycling of 76,000 tons of additional waste annually, generating over 200 billion KRW in benefits. Newly added items include multifunctional products and small imports, while industrial equipment and military supplies will remain exempt.

The amendment is set to take effect in 2026, following stakeholder feedback and a grace period for smooth implementation.
