Korean MOLIT Announces Introduction of Autonomous Vehicle Performance Certification and Conformity Approval Systems


The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) has announced a legislative notice for a partial amendment to the Autonomous Vehicle Act Enforcement Decree and will collect public opinions until February 19, 2025.

This amendment introduces performance certification and conformity approval systems for autonomous vehicles without established safety standards. It is a follow-up measure to the revision of the Act on Promotion and Support of Commercialization of Autonomous Vehicles (Act No. 20391, promulgated on March 19, 2024, and effective from March 20, 2025).

The amendment outlines the standards, targets, and procedures for performance certification and conformity approval of autonomous vehicles and specifies the necessary measures for their implementation.
