MOLIT Amends EDR Rules in Line with International Standards

Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) has amended the regulations to align the recording methods and items of Event Data Recorders (EDRs) with international standards and to clarify the conditions under which recorded driving data must not be overwritten. Under the amendment, EDR data must be preserved if any of the following conditions are met: Deployment of irreversible safety devices such as airbags or seatbelt pre-tensioners Activation of a pedestrian protection system during a collision with a pedestrian or cyclist In vehicles without irreversible safety devices, if the cumulative change in speed in the direction of travel exceeds 25 km/h within 0.15 seconds   In addition, the front passenger airbag status must now be limited to two values: ON or OFF. RRA Proposes Revisions to Conformity Assessment Standards for Satellite Radio Equipment

On May 21, 2025, Korea's National Radio Research Agency (RRA) announced a revision to the standard to simplify conformity assessment tests for satellite mobile communication radio equipment and to introduce an annex outlining detailed procedures for each test method. MFDS Launches GMP Support for Korean Medical Device Firms

Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has introduced a new technical support program to strengthen the quality management systems of domestic medical device manufacturers through the adoption of international Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. The program, in collaboration with the Daegu Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation and the Korea Smart Healthcare Association, targets companies seeking new manufacturing licenses or aiming to meet international GMP standards for export. The law introduces the following key measures. Reporting Obligation: EV charging facility operators must report installations and modifications to local authorities to ensure proper supervision. Compulsory Insurance: Operators are required to carry insurance to cover damages from incidents such as fires, ensuring prompt compensation for victims. Standardized Contracts for Safety: The government will offer contract templates to promote fair outsourcing practices and minimize unnecessary costs in safety management. On May 23, 2025, Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced a draft amendment to the Regulations on Performance and Standards of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Parts. Under the revised rules, critical accident-related driving data—such as records involving airbag deployment, activation of pedestrian protection systems, or significant speed changes—must be preserved and not overwritten. This change is part of an effort to align Korea’s requirements for event data recorders with international standards. The amendment also revises the indication of the front passenger airbag status by eliminating the “Auto” setting. The display will now be limited to “On” or “Off” for greater clarity. KATS Discovers 77 Unsafe Products Sold via Overseas Purchasing Agencies

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) inspected 420 products sold via purchasing agency services on Korean online platforms and found that 77 failed to meet safety standards. This is largely because some electrical and household products are sold without KC certification under this model. Vietnam Authorizes 6GHz Spectrum for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7

On March 31, 2025, Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) issued Circular No. 01/2025/TT-BKHCN, amending portions of Circular No. 08/2021/TT-BTTTT. The revision introduces a new frequency allocation plan that includes the 6GHz Wi-Fi band (5925–6425 MHz), paving the way for the use of next-generation Wi-Fi technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 in Vietnam. In addition, MST has newly allocated the 315–400 kHz frequency range for wireless charging devices and updated the relevant spurious emission limits.
