Stronger Oversight for EV Charging Facilities Begins in Korea

On May 27, 2025, the Korean government hereby enacts the amended Electrical Safety Management Act to establish a systematic framework for EV charging infrastructure. The law introduces the following key measures.

  • Reporting Obligation: EV charging facility operators must report installations and modifications to local authorities to ensure proper supervision.
  • Compulsory Insurance: Operators are required to carry insurance to cover damages from incidents such as fires, ensuring prompt compensation for victims.
  • Standardized Contracts for Safety: The government will offer contract templates to promote fair outsourcing practices and minimize unnecessary costs in safety management.

The amendment will be enforced six months after its promulgation.
Reporting and insurance obligations must be fulfilled within six months of the effective date.
