Non-Sleep Inclined Cradles: Korea Proposes New Safety Category
On
June 10, 2025, South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE)
announced a proposed amendment to the Enforcement Rules of the Special Act on
the Safety of Children’s Products.
Under
the current regulations, inclined cradles are classified as a type of infant
bed. However, safety concerns have emerged after it became known that inclined
cradles are not suitable for infant sleep. This has led to the need to prevent
their inappropriate use as infant sleep products.
The
amendment, therefore, separates inclined cradles from infant beds and
reclassifies them under a new category: “non-sleep inclined cradles.” By
clarifying the product’s intended use, the revision aims to prevent confusion
and enhance infant safety.
Organizations,
associations, or individuals with opinions on the proposed amendment are
invited to submit their comments online through the Public Legislative
Participation Center or send written opinions to the Korean Agency for
Technology and Standards under MOTIE by July 21, 2025.
