Are You Aware of Conformity Assessment Violations in South Korea?

  • Conformity Assessment

Manufacturers, sellers, and importers of broadcasting and communication equipment must verify compliance with technical regulations before distribution, demonstrated through testing and issuing a Certificate or Registration of Conformity.

  • Follow-Up Management

Marketed products are collected for testing, and on-site inspections ensure compliance with obligations like conformity assessment labeling, change reporting, and document retention. Violations lead to sanctions.

  • Ongoing Compliance with Technical Regulations

Products must meet technical regulations (e.g., frequency, output power, bandwidth, electromagnetic emission) even after certification, throughout manufacturing and sales.

  • Change Reporting & Document Control

If a certified product is modified, a revision report must be filed. For Self-Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) items, records must be maintained and publicly disclosed. Changes to conformity criteria must be made after conducting the conformity assessment tests.

  • Labeling Requirements

Products with Certification, Registration, or Interim Certification must display a conformity-assessment label. Products with SDoC must display the conformity label (KC mark, control number, model name) on the product or packaging and include the SDoC label in the manual.

  • Document Retention

All documents must be kept in hard copy or digital form:

- Registration of Conformity: application form, certificate of compliance, circuit diagrams (for wired/wireless products)
- SDoC: SDoC declaration and application consent form for identical models
- Common to Both: user manual, exterior Photos, power of attorney, series models and related change documents, and test reports (test reports may be omitted if publicly disclosed under an SDoC)

  • Revocation of Conformity Assessment

Failure to comply with administrative orders, such as recalls or corrective actions, can result in criminal penalties.
