KATS Revises KC Safety Standards for Tablet PCs and Cells

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) is pursuing revisions to the kc safety standards related to tablet PCs and cells in accordance with the proposed amendment to the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Guideline (Announcement No.2026-143), and public comments are being accepted until July 10, 2026.

KC Safety Standards for Tablet PCs

Revision of the Criteria for Tablet PCs Subject to Electrical Appliances Safety Confirmation

Increase in the Diagonal Screen Size Criterion: 17 cm → 20 cm or more

Addresses the issue of smartphones with screen sizes of 17 cm or more (e.g., Galaxy Ultra series) being classified as tablet PCs.

 

Revision of Self-Inspection Test Items for Cells Subject to Electrical Appliances Safety Certification

Overcurrent Charging Test → Crush Test

Harmonization of Test Items with the Current Safety Standard (KC 62133-2)

The cells subject to safety certification are limited to lithium-based cells with an energy density of 700 Wh/L or higher and a maximum charging voltage of 4.4 V or higher, intended for use in smartphones, notebook computers, and tablet PCs.
