KATS Sets Safety Standards for Camping Heaters and Ethanol Fireplaces

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) has established safety standards for camping parking heaters and ethanol fireplaces to enhance safety management. These products will be regulated as household goods subject to compliance with safety standards under Article 28 of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act.

  • Parking Heater: As its use for camping has increased, concerns about carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning have emerged. Safety standards, including CO concentration limits and warm air temperature restrictions, will be established in December 2024 and enforced from December 2025.
  • Ethanol Fireplace: Due to fire and burn risks caused by fuel leakage during use, safety standards will be established within this year to prevent such hazards. After a one-year grace period, enforcement is scheduled to begin in 2026.
