Korea Harmonizes KC 60335-2-29 with IEC Standards for Household Battery Chargers

December 23, 2025, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) issued
an announcement
No. 2025-370, proposing a revision to the safety standard KC 60335-2-29
(Household and Similar Electrical Appliances – Safety – Part 2-29: Particular
Requirements for Battery Chargers). This revision aims to update the safety
standards in alignment with international standards.
KATS
is collecting public opinions on the proposed amendment until February 3, 2026.

Revisions
- Update of IEC Edition: Ed 5.0 (2016-06) → Ed 5.1 (2019-03)
- Expansion of ripple-free DC output range: Up to 120 V → Up to 250 V
- Classification of charger types based on transformer specifications:
- Type 2: Battery charger output circuits supplied through an isolating transformer (DC output voltage must not exceed 250 V)
