Korea Revises Seven KC Safety Standards for Electrical Appliances

On July 20, 2026, the Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) announced revisions to seven electrical appliance safety standards. The revisions are intended to update Korea's KC electrical appliance safety standards by reflecting international agreements, including WTO/TBT and IECEE.


Which Seven Electrical Appliance Safety Standards Were Revised?

• KC 60335-2-2: Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-2: Particular requirements for vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances

• KC 60335-2-12: Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-12: Particular requirements for warming plates and similar appliances

• KC 60335-2-30: Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-30: Particular requirements for room heaters

• KC 60335-2-32: Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-32: Particular requirements for massage appliances

• KC 60081: Double-capped fluorescent lamps – Performance specifications

• KC 60969: Self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamps for general lighting services – Performance requirements

• KC 61347-2-3: Lamp control gear - Part 2-3: Particular requirements for a.c. and/or d.c. supplied electronic control gear for fluorescent lamps

 

When Will the Revised Electrical Appliance Safety Standards Take Effect?

The revised electrical appliance safety standards take effect on July 20, 2026.

However, to allow manufacturers and importers sufficient time to adapt to the revised requirements, a one-year transition period has been provided during which the previous safety standards may continue to be applied until July 20, 2027.

During this transition period, companies may choose to comply with either the previous or the revised safety standards. After the transition period ends, compliance with the revised safety standards will become mandatory.

 

Manufacturers and importers planning to place electrical appliances on the Korean market should review the revised standards during the transition period and prepare for full compliance before the revised requirements become mandatory.
