Korea's National Institute of Technology
Standards, under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, has announced the
full-scale operation of the 'High-capacity Secondary Battery Fire Safety
Verification Center,' which is equipped with the world's largest (30MW)
secondary battery fire test facility in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, South
Korea, and recognized as an internationally certified testing institution.
The National Institute of Technology
Standards (KATS) initiated the construction of the Secondary Battery Fire Test
Center in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, as part of the Energy Storage System
(ESS) safety enhancement plan introduced in 2019. They officially opened the
'High-capacity Secondary Battery Fire Safety Verification Center' on September
15, 2023.
The Center will issue international test
certificates, support full-cycle technical processes for high-capacity
secondary battery product development, conduct fire incident analysis and
damage assessment, and evaluate large-scale fire extinguishing equipment for
firefighting.
