In South Korea, KC Certification is essential for ensuring that equipment related to the radio environment and communication networks meets safety and performance standards. Depending on the level of risk and the type of equipment, manufacturers, sellers, and importers must follow different conformity assessment.

 

KC Conformity Certification

Anyone who intends to manufacture, sell, or import equipment that may pose a risk to the radio environment or communication networks, or that could cause significant electromagnetic interference or be affected to the point where it disrupts normal operation, must obtain a conformity certification. This certification requires passing tests based on compliance evaluation standards at a designated testing institution, followed by an assessment by the National Radio Research Agency.

 

KC Conformity Registration

Anyone who intends to manufacture, sell, or import equipment that poses a somewhat lower risk to the radio environment or communication networks, or that could cause electromagnetic interference or be affected to the extent that it disrupts normal operation—though to a lesser degree than equipment requiring compliance certification—must undergo testing based on compliance evaluation standards at a designated testing institution. After filling out a certificate that confirms the equipment meets these standards, they must then proceed with conformity registration.

 

KC Self Conformity Verification

Anyone who intends to manufacture, sell, or import equipment for measurement, testing, industrial, or scientific purposes that poses a low risk to the radio environment or communication networks must conduct compliance testing either independently or through a designated testing institution. This testing can also be performed by a testing institution recognized by a domestic or international accreditation body that has signed a mutual recognition agreement on conformity assessment with an international accreditation cooperation organization. After completing the testing and preparing a self conformity verification, the results must be published on the National Radio Research Agency’s website.

 

KC Provisional Certification

If compliance evaluation standards for broadcasting and communication equipment have not been established, or if compliance evaluation is difficult for other reasons, anyone who intends to manufacture, sell, or import such equipment may obtain provisional certification. This requires conducting a compliance evaluation based on domestic or international standards, regulations, and technical criteria, after which conditions such as region and validity period may be applied to the provisional certification.
