The National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) has established and announced the national standard (KS I ISO 16000-36) for testing the airborne bacteria reduction performance of air purifiers. This standard is an adaptation of the 2018 international standard (ISO 16000-36) to better fit the domestic industry and is expected to enhance the reliability of performance evaluation and product quality.

NIER is also working on establishing an international standard for evaluating airborne mold reduction performance. The proposed standard was approved as the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) on September 17, 2024, and is expected to be officially established this year.
