Korea Identifies Energy Efficiency Regulation Violations for Monitor Products

During the 2026 post-market surveillance conducted by the Korea Energy Agency, numerous cases of non-compliance with energy consumption efficiency registration and labeling requirements were identified for monitor products. Accordingly, companies marketing monitor products in Korea should review their compliance with additional model registration requirements and energy consumption efficiency labeling regulations.

What is an Additional Model?

An additional model refers to a model to which the company has assigned a new model name due to changes such as feature enhancements, production period, color, or handle position, without any change in energy consumption efficiency.

However, where energy consumption efficiency is affected by changes to the electrical or mechanical internal structure, the addition or removal of components, or the introduction of new functions, the product shall be registered as a separate new model rather than as an additional model.

Key Violation Cases

Sale of Additional Models Without Registration
Cases where only the base model was registered, while color variants or distributor-exclusive models were marketed and sold without being registered as additional models.

Incorrect Model Name on the Label
Cases where products qualifying as additional models were marketed and sold with labels displaying the base model name instead of the applicable additional model name.

Proper Registration and Labeling Methods

For example, if the base model is “ABCD” and there are a color variant model “ABCD_WH” and a distributor-exclusive model “ABCD_HM”:

• Register the base model “ABCD” first.

• Use the system’s additional model registration function to separately register “ABCD_WH” and “ABCD_HM” as additional models.

• When affixing labels and publishing advertisements, ensure that the actual marketed model names, “ABCD_WH” and “ABCD_HM,” are displayed on the labels.

Important Notes

Under the Operational Regulation for Energy Efficiency Management Equipment, all applicable monitor products must be registered either as a base model or as an additional model. In addition, the energy consumption efficiency label must display the actual marketed model name.

Monitor manufacturers and importers are advised to review their model registration status and label information in advance to avoid potential non-compliance issues during post-market surveillance and regulatory inspections.
